About us
MIND Program runs a community meal program rooted in the belief that access to nourishing food is a fundamental right. We serve low-income and marginalized community members in Scarborough & Toronto through culturally responsive, dignity-centred food programming and partnerships with frontline organizations.We are a small, mission-driven team where every role matters, learning is encouraged, and impact is visible everyday.
About the Role
The MIND Program is seeking passionate, community-minded leaders to join our 6-member Board of Directors and help guide the organization through its next stage of growth and impact.
The MIND Program is a Toronto-based charitable organization committed to nourishing at-risk and marginalized communities by increasing access to healthy, dignified and barrier-free food programs. Working in partnership with frontline community organizations, MIND provides nutritious, culturally diverse meals to
individuals and families experiencing poverty and food insecurity.
We are currently looking to strengthen our Board with an individual who bring one or more of the following
areas of expertise:
● Legal and Governance
● Fundraising, Philanthropy and Donor Engagement
● Marketing and Communications
This is a voluntary Board position and an opportunity to contribute your professional expertise, leadership and network to an organization making a meaningful difference in the community. This individual will be joining the team as our sixth Board Director.
The Role
The Board of Directors provides governance, strategic oversight and fiduciary accountability for MIND Program. Board Directors help ensure that the organization fulfills its mission, remains financially sustainable,
meets its legal and regulatory responsibilities, and continues to increase its impact in the community.
MIND's Board operates as a light-weight governance body focused primarily on strategy, financial oversight, organizational sustainability, executive leadership support, risk management and fundraising stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Strategy

Contribute to the development and oversight of MIND Program's organizational strategy
-
Ensure alignment with the organization's mission, vision and values

Participate in strategic planning and priority-setting discussions
-
Monitor organizational performance, outcomes and community impact
-
Apply sound judgment and governance best practices to Board decision-making
Fiduciary & Risk Oversight

Review and approve annual budgets and financial statements
-
Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources
-
Support compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements
-
Monitor organizational risk and long-term sustainability
Executive Leadership Support
-
Provide guidance and support to the Executive Director
-
Participate in performance discussions, where applicable
-
Act as a trusted strategic resource to organizational leadership

Serve as an ambassador for MIND Program in the community
Fundraising & Community Engagement
-
Support fundraising initiatives and donor engagement
-
Help identify potential partnerships, sponsorships and funding opportunities
-
Promote awareness of MIND Program through personal and professional networks

Strengthen relationships with community, corporate and philanthropic partners
Board Participation

Attend and actively participate in Board meetings

Participate in committee work as required

Review materials and prepare in advance of meetings

Contribute constructively and respectfully to Board discussions and decisions
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome candidates from diverse professional and community backgrounds. For our current Board
recruitment, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or a combination of the
following areas:

Fundraising, Philanthropy and Donor Engagement

Marketing and Communicationz
Previous Board experience is an asset but is not required. We are equally interested in candidates who have
relevant expertise and are ready to contribute at the governance level.

Commitment
Term: 2 years, renewable
Board Meetings: Approximately 10 meetings annually
Participation in committee work, fundraising, community engagement and strategic initiatives as appropriate (approximately 3-5 hours per month)
Compensation: This is a voluntary, unpaid Board position
